There's a happy ending to the search for a northwest Indiana woman who'd been the subject of a missing-persons search for nearly a week. Sheriff's deputies in Newton County say an excavation crew working Tuesday along County Road 600S near CR300E found a car off the road, in a culvert and hidden from other drivers. Inside the car, they found 41-year-old Brieonna Cassell of Wheatfield, who'd been missing since March 5 when she left her home to visit loved ones.

Police in Highland Park say five thieves smashed their way through the front doors or windows of six businesses in the suburb's downtown and three more along Skokie Valley Road. Investigators say the vehicle used in the thefts was stolen and was also linked to a commercial burglary shortly afterward in Deerfield.

Six baby foxes apparently abandoned by their mother in far northwest suburban Cary this week and suffering from the cold appear to be doing better. A woman found the baby foxes, also known as "kits," in a window well at her home on Wednesday night, when the temperature in the area reached 31 degrees. Workers at the Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Barrington rescued the kits.
