A furious man says he's wasted a year of his life battling a £145 fine - for parking on his own driveway. Aftab Mahboob was handed the penalty last summer for driving in a bus lane - which he has to do in order to park on his driveway in Romford. The 45-year-old repeatedly appealed the Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) until it escalated to £145. Once reviewed by a parking adjudicator, the fine was cancelled.

Police were called to Tesco Extra in Bridge Road, Rainham, at about 10.38am today (August 30) to reports of a man assaulted. A pensioner in his 70s was found with a head injury by police and the London Ambulance Service. He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

Rourke Lorenzo David, 36, of Smeaton Road, Chigwell, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court yesterday (August 29) to six years imprisonment for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Wayne Morrison, 54, leased his Avalon Road flat to the council more than two years ago. The Romford-born man has owned his flat for almost 15 years but is now unable to rent or sell it after the council could not find alternative accommodation for its current tenants.
