But on Wednesday, a small group of Michigan House Democrats broke with the majority of their party to vote for a resolution urging the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSSA) to ban transgender girls from girls' sports.

The Michigan Senate has no plans to take up this question. Two years ago, Michigan Democratic state lawmakers stood united to update the state's civil rights law to ban discrimination based sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

The Michigan House of Representatives passed a resolution Wednesday strongly urging the Michigan High School Athletic Association to ban transgender girls from girls' sports. Sixty-six representatives voted for it, including eight Democrats. Forty-three representatives voted against it.
