Jackson Howard has played a sport every month for the past three years. The recently graduated Gering High School senior will transition to just one sport after signing to play basketball at Hastings College Monday. Howard said while he enjoyed playing all four sports at Gering — football, basketball, track and baseball — it was basketball that became his true love and he is pleased that he will get to continue that in college. “Not really (a tough decision),” Jackson said.

Western Nebraska Community College has hired a familiar face to serve as interim head volleyball coach as Fatima Balza returns to WNCC to guide the volleyball team. Balza, who officially started her role as interim coach in late April, said she is excited to be back at WNCC, a place where she started her collegiate volleyball career. “Taking over the volleyball team holds significant personal meaning for me because WNCC has always held a special place in my heart,” Balza said.
