Elder Hall, Adelaide16 May, 2025Sometimes a concert slips through the reviewing cracks, and regrettably so. A case in point was the ASQ’s recent ‘Rapture’ concert. Not having been able to review it, I did nevertheless attend as an audience member, and felt impelled to add my thoughts about it. As long-term observers of the group know well, the ASQ have a hectic concert schedule and are stretched in many directions.

Ev’ry Valley: A tenor’s journey is a prodigiously detailed account of his life, and quite a marvel for what it contains. All his memories and ruminations are contained in its 313 pages, and the book is arranged in a most unusual way: by abode. A singer’s life is on the road, one might say, and this has surely been the case with Edmond.

Brett Sheehy had to hit the ground sprinting when returning to the helm of the Adelaide Festival, with the 2025 program sent to the printers less than two months after he started as artistic director. Sheehy, who was AD of the event from 2005-08, was brought back to finalise and oversee the delivery of next year’s Festival after his predecessor Ruth Mackenzie left in early August to take up a new role within the Department of the Premier and Cabinet.

Brisbane singer Dami Im is looking forward to performing in front of Eurovision fans again. The last time she fronted them was in Stockholm, Sweden, with the song Sound of Silence, which placed second in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. She had achieved the highest Eurovision Song Context score ever for Australia.
