Howard W. Peak, an urban planner who served two terms as mayor of San Antonio and launched what became an extensive network of walking and bicycling trails that bears his name, has died. Lynda Billa Burke, a former San Antonio councilwoman, said Peak died Saturday in a local care facility. He had suffered from dementia in recent years, she said. Peak's family informed Mayor Ron Nirenberg's office of the death Saturday night. Peak was about a month shy of his 76th birthday.
