In June 2020, a little more than three years after his initial diagnosis, Cunningham went through what he thought would be his last day of cancer treatment only to find out 17 months later that the cancer had returned. He had not reached remission. The battle continued. But Cunningham would not let it beat him. He stayed positive. “When I was in the hospital, I noticed the people that had a bad attitude about it really didn’t do well through the cancer treatment,” he said.

Facing third-and-1 from its own 34-yard line, quarterback Jarrett Stidham took the snap, faked like he was going to run and then threw it to a wide open JaTarvious “Boobee” Whitlow down the left sideline. Whitlow made one cut inside, and he was gone. Sixty-six yards to the house on the game's third play. “It was third-and-1, and I remember practicing that play,” Stidham recalled.

AUBURN, Ala. – All last week head coach Hugh Freeze and quarterbacks Payton Thorne and Robby Ashford had to answer questions about the struggling offense. Auburn had passed for an average of 105 yards per game through the first four SEC games. "It's time for us to put up or shut up," Freeze told his quarterbacks ahead of Saturday's game against Mississippi State. Message received.
