AUBURN | Eric Guevara may have sewed up SEC Player of the Week honors before most of the other teams in the league finished their opening games of the weekend. The sophomore was 12 of 15 (.800) with seven runs scored, two doubles, a triple, two homers and nine RBI in Auburn’s three-game sweep of South Carolina, which started Thursday night and concluded with a doubleheader Friday. “It’s a combination offense/defense, but 12 hits in the series,” said AU coach Butch Thompson.

AUBURN | Auburn continued its late-season surge. The 5th-ranked Tigers swept South Carolina in a doubleheader at Plainsman Park Friday, winning game one in an 11-10 walk-off and game two 11-3 to complete a series sweep. With Thursday night’s 24-2 win, Auburn scored a program-record 46 runs for a three-game SEC series. "I think we're more offensive than we had been during certain stints of the season," said AU coach Butch Thompson.

Understandably, the Tigers’ staff moved him to midweek where the freshmen has thrived, not allowing a run in 20.1 innings since his first midweek start at No. 15 Georgia Tech April 8. And the momentum Chatterton picked up in midweek carried right over to his first SEC start in 36 days at No. 7 Tennessee Sunday.

AUBURN | Auburn returned from Knoxville with a series win over a top 10 team and the assuredness that they can beat any team anywhere and under any circumstance. Perhaps the Tigers’ players and coaches already believed that before taking 2-of-3 from Tennessee. But they know it now. Auburn out-played the defending national champions on their field in front of their fans. The Volunteers were fortunate to win just one.

A big third inning gave No. 5 Auburn a decisive series win. The Tigers struck for four runs in the third and two pitchers held No. 7 Tennessee to four hits in an 8-1 win in seven innings Sunday afternoon at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Auburn, which improves to 33-15 overall and 13-11 in the SEC, won game one 6-1 before losing game two 5-4 in 11 innings. “We competed our heart out,” AU coach Butch Thompson told the Auburn Network. “That draws us closer to some goals that we have.
