ATHOL – In the wake of recent resignations, town officials are seeking residents willing to serve on the Town Energy Committee or the Municipal Decarbonization Task Force. According to Athol Planning and Development Director Eric Smith, Lee Gersch and Katalin Krieger each cited personal reasons for not seeking reappointment to either group. Gersch and Krieger were both members of the Energy Committee, while Gersch also served on the Decarbonization Task Force.

PHILLIPSTON – Voters breezed through Wednesday’s Annual Town Meeting with very little discussion – until they reached Article 32, the final article on the warrant. The article calls for a change to a paragraph in Section 14 of the town’s zoning bylaws. This amendment, which was eventually approved by a vote of 24-12, states that the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) cannot issue a variance for any use that is expressly prohibited in any given zone, be it residential or commercial.

One of the bridges on Chestnut Hill Avenue was closed Tuesday evening for repairs by MassDOT. The bridge was reopened Wednesday afternoon. ATHOL – One of the two bridges on Chestnut Hill Avenue between Route 2A and Crescent Street was shut down for several hours Tuesday night until Wednesday morning to allow for repairs.
