MAYS LANDING — ACIT earned the first varsity football victory Saturday against Deptford, and the team and its fans rejoiced. But it wasn't easy. Redhawks quarterback Anthony Gaitano scored on a 2-yard plunge in the first overtime series, and then ACIT clinched it by stopping Deptford in its overtime chance.

The Cape-Atlantic League American Division has six strong girls tennis teams this fall, and all may end up with winning overall records. Mainland Regional and Vineland high school tied for the CAL American championship last year at 9-1 in the division. Both teams are talented again. But other teams, such as Egg Harbor Township and Ocean City, have improved. Absegami was 12-7 in 2023, and division newcomer Middle Township was 14-7.
