A Richmond man was sentenced Wednesday to three years and eight months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Court documents say that on Aug. 12, 2023, Trevon Barfield, 28, pointed a gun at his ex-girlfriend. At the time, Barfield also had an outstanding arrest warrant. Officers were called to an apartment complex, finding Barfield sitting atop the stairwell.

A Chesterfield restaurant was damaged on Wednesday after a car drove through one of its windows. Chesterfield Fire and EMS said they were called just before 4 p.m. to the scene in the 13800 block of Fribble Way. When crews arrived, they found a van that had struck the side of the building. Q Barbeque also shared photos of the incident on Facebook. In their post, the restaurant said their Hull Street location would remain open Wednesday night and reopen Thursday at the usual time.

Virginia State Police say that seven people were killed in crashes over Memorial Day weekend this year, a significant decrease compared to 13 deaths in 2024. Those crashes happened in the counties of Bedford, Buckingham, Caroline, Fauquier and Spotsylvania, and the cities of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach. “Our goal remains to see a holiday weekend where there are no fatal crashes,” said Colonel Matthew D. Hanley, Superintendent of Virginia State Police.

Two people are in the hospital after getting into a fight at a Henrico business, according to police. On Memorial Day, police were called at around 11:11 a.m. to the business within the 3900 block of Gay Avenue for the report of two people fighting. Upon arrival, they found two men with obvious signs of trauma. They were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. During the investigation, detectives found a long-edged weapon.

On Nov. 26, Henrico police Special Victims Units received an alert from Child Protective Services about the incident. School officials confirmed that the child was rescued unharmed from traffic by a good Samaritan. As a result, the school terminated two teachers. Abigail Layne Baracat, 33, was arrested by Henrico police last week, and Rebeca Rosas-Eterovic, 29, was arrested Tuesday. Both were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
