However, within the last decade, media integrity and journalists’ reputations have slowly eroded, and the field of journalism has been compromised. Journalists do more than just report the news. They serve as the only real check on government practices as independent watch dogs, known as the fourth estate.
Call Child Development Center Evacuated

The Santa Rosa Junior College police evacuated the Call Child Development Center Friday morning, but at 11:03 a.m., issued an alert stating the area was clear and safe to return. An SRJC Urgent Alert was sent out to the college community at 9:45 a.m., telling students and faculty to, “AVOID THE AREA near the Call Child Development Center due to Police Activity.”The alert also said there was no immediate threat.
Reported Brandishing of a Firearm on the SRJC Petaluma Campus

The Santa Rosa Junior College District Police alerted the college community about an unknown subject pointing a gun at a student on the Petaluma Campus, Wednesday evening. The subject brandished a firearm outside of the Welcome Center on the Petaluma Campus approximately 130 feet away from the student. When the student used her cell phone to report the incident, the subject fled on foot towards neighboring Leghorn Park. District Police and the Petaluma Police Department’s response was swift.

The sun was out, the music was loud and the mood was high as BottleRock 2024 came to an epic conclusion on day 3. Tors Indie Pop/Folk band Tors came all the way from Exeter in the United Kingdom to get the JaM Cellars Stage started for the day. The three-man group is comprised of brothers Matt and Theo Weedon and Jack Bowden. Matt is the band’s lead vocalist while his brother Theo plays lead guitar and Jack Bowden is on the drums.

He was 11 years into living unhoused with constant stints in and out of jail and nearly a lifetime of battling drug addiction, and he was ready to give up. Santa Rosa Junior College community members took part in a demonstration calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, Thursday afternoon in the Bertolini Quad at the Santa Rosa campus. SRJC’s Middle Eastern and North African Association (MENAA) organized the demonstration. Over 100 SRJC students, faculty and community members attended the student-ran event, which remained peaceful throughout.

Controversy erupted over an inflammatory, faculty-wide email sent out by Santa Rosa Junior College business instructor Steven Fichera stating “DEI MUST DIE. IT’S RACIST,” on Feb. 15. DEI, an abbreviation of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, is an institutional addition to the educational and career sectors in which people of minority status are hired into positions where they have historically been underrepresented, the implementation of which has led to controversy in the public sphere.
