The smell of freshly made popcorn permeates the homestands as student athletes get the concessions ready for Santa Rosa Junior College’s inaugural homecoming football game on Oct. 18, 2024. Music blares from the loudspeakers as the home team walks to the locker room entrance in preparation for the runout onto the field. The cheer team gets in formation with a banner that says “We Can’t Hide Our Bear Cub Pride!” for the team to run through just in front of the doors.

The Santa Rosa Junior College men’s wrestling team finished fourth at the CCCAA Norcal Regional Championships at Haehl Pavilion on Saturday, Dec. 7. SRJC played host to Skyline College, San Joaquin Delta College, Lassen College, Sierra College, Sacramento City College, Chabot College, Fresno City College, Shasta College, College of the Redwoods and Modesto Community College. Though the wrestlers competed to qualify as individuals, the Bear Cubs placed fourth overall in the regional championship.

The Santa Rosa Junior College District Police alerted the college community about an unknown subject pointing a gun at a student on the Petaluma Campus, Wednesday evening. The subject brandished a firearm outside of the Welcome Center on the Petaluma Campus approximately 130 feet away from the student. When the student used her cell phone to report the incident, the subject fled on foot towards neighboring Leghorn Park. District Police and the Petaluma Police Department’s response was swift.

Faculty members of the Santa Rosa Junior College Theatre Arts department have selected four comedies to provide fun and engaging experiences that both students and audiences can look forward to for the department’s 2024-2025 season. James Newman, SRJC Theatre Arts department chair, expressed the importance of knowing the difference between different kinds of comedies.

Funny CarThe top two drivers in the NHRA Funny Car standings met in the semifinals Sunday at Sonoma Raceway. Heading into the week Austin Prock led with 1044 points, 256 points ahead of Bob Tasca III, who’s first round 338.77 was the top speed of the weekend in the division. Tasca III beat Prock off the line by .022, and after losing the lead heading into the midsection was able to outpace Prock’s Camaro and sneak across the line with a .03 second lead, securing his place in the final.
