When I was a young Grimsby Telegraph reporter back in the noughties, one the biggest and most important campaigns we ran was to raise funds for a hydrotherapy pool. In 2007, that incredible facility for disabled people in Grimsby was finally opened at Humberston Park School by Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh. I remember writing numerous stories about the appeal, the amazing response from the community and the endless events that were held for it.

Kind-hearted students and their families at Cleethorpes Academy donated more than 2,000 Easter eggs to local good causes. Staff were overwhelmed at the generosity and beneficiaries were Grimsby hospital’s children’s ward, Women’s Aid, Lindsey Hall Care Home and The Rock Foundation. Principal Paul Thundercliffe said the appeal was part of a ‘Golden Egg Week’, which celebrated the end of term with recognition, rewards and donations.

Families across Hull will have be receiving their children’s primary school place allocation for September today. 96% of pupils were offered their first preference of school this year. 99% of pupils obtained one of their three preferences. In total, around 2,900 children make up the total cohort of pupils at Hull’s primary schools.
