USF says a plan to increase on-campus housing rates resulted in a rise in demand by allowing the university to invest in its housing facilities. But with more people applying to live on campus than usual, some students were left without a place to live the next school year. Alexis Edminster, a junior studio art major, was unable to secure a dorm on campus and is moving back to her hometown in Chicago.

Faculty Senate Vice President Scott Perry said he can’t “get a hold of” USF President Rhea Law to learn her stance on the rumored Sarasota-Manatee and New College of Florida merger. “I’ve always found Rhea Law to make the right statement at the right time, but she’s not being available to talk,” Perry said. “I’m not sure that anybody can really find out what she’s thinking.”Perry said he has a “gorgeous” relationship with Law and has tried to reach her — but heard nothing back.

Over winter break, Brayden Jahn and Jamar Blaze Smith traveled to Istanbul, where they put their language skills to the test by conversing with locals and ordering food in Turkish. But now the pair are going on a different journey – the race for the offices of student body president and vice president. If elected, they said they vow to serve the student body with fairness and without bias. “Two words that would describe our campaign would be care and authenticity,” Jahn said.

They highlighted how they would help fund student organizations and advocate for the student body. Four tickets are running in the Tampa campus gubernatorial election:Emma Goodwin, a biomedical sciences major, is running for governor alongside Ethan Walsh, an industrial engineering major, as prospective lieutenant governor.
