    Residents fear stabbings and other violent crime in their Leicester neighbourhood will increase if a store’s bid to sell alcohol late into the night is approved. Evington Road has “become a hotspot for anti-social behaviour”, those who live there have said, with a “rise in serious crime” there in “recent years”. Crimes have included “stabbings and shootings”, which have caused “significant fear and distress among residents”, residents said.

    A late-night booze bid by a Leicester store has sparked fears over increased crime, anti-social behaviour and public urination in the area. The owners of new the Morrisons store, in Narborough Road, is seeking permission from Leicester City Council to sell alcohol 24/7. While the store can currently stay open through the night, alcohol sales are restricted to between 7am and 10pm each day.

    Leicestershire voters will be going to the polls again next month for the 2025 local election. But not everybody will be able to cast a vote, with seats on just one local council up for grabs. All 55 councillor roles on Leicestershire County Council will be contested on Thursday, May 1. The authority has been under the continuous control of the Conservative Party since 2001, with the party fielding candidates for every position this year.

    A former Leicester city centre factory can be brought back into use for new homes, planning officers have ruled. The Carron Building, in Rutland Street, was built at the turn of the 20th century as a leather warehouse. The building was then used for textile manufacturing until “at least 1973”, according to developers Moorhouse Projects Ltd. In their planning application to Leicester City Council, they claimed the Carron Building had been left “largely vacant" ever since.
