CHANDIGARH: Following the brutal attack by alleged drug peddlers on an ex-serviceman on Sunday in Bakhtaur village in Bathinda district of Punjab has prompted villagers to put up a sign declaring, "Our Village is for Sale." Lakhbir Singh, a farmer from Bhai Bakhtaur village in Bathinda district on Sunday posted a hand-written banner at the village entrance which read `` Our Village is For Sale '' (Saada pind vikau hai).

Bhola was required to furnish a Rs 5 lakh bond and surrender his passport and complete a community service project (planting 100 trees within 15 days of his release). He was dismissed from the police force in 2012 after the recovery of poppy husk. The government will fully develop the land and return plots to the farmers, which will include all facilities like roads, electricity and water connections, sewerage pipes, street lights, and parks. The value of these plots will be up to four times the market rate. Each farmer will receive a written document from the government clearly mentioning the farmer's full entitlement. Farmers can choose to receive two plots of 500 square yards each and will have complete freedom to keep or sell them.

Sharing details of the ongoing anti-drug drive, Yadav said a total of 13,038 people have been arrested and 8,344 FIRs have been lodged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Of the total arrested persons, 1,696 were "big fish", he said. He said police seized 586 kg heroin, 14,000 kg poppy husks, 247 kg opium, 253 kg ganja, 1.6 kg ICE and 25.70 lakh capsules and tablets during the drive.
