After six outstanding years leading South Dakota State, Henderson joins the Valley’s defending champions. South Dakota State Coach(St. Louis, MO) – Drake’s new head coach is Eric Henderson. After a successful six-year stint as South Dakota State’s head coach, the 46-year-old Henderson leaves the Summit League to join the Missouri Valley Conference. Henderson (129-60) produced four twenty-win seasons, four conference championships and two NCAA Tournament trips. Drake and Texas Tech – Bookend Meetings(St. Louis, MO) – Drake and Texas Tech began the season with a ‘secret scrimmage’ and will now play the second of two bookend meetings. Coaches Ben McCollum and Grant McCasland are old friends so they brought their teams together for a preseason scrimmage. Texas Tech won the game 75-66, but it was that ‘secret scrimmage’ that actually catapulted Drake to its great success.

Playing suffocating defense and efficient offense, eleventh seeded Drake defeated Missouri 67-57 and has reached the NCAA Tournament's round of 32. Bennett Stirtz scored 21 points and Tavion Banks added 15 as Drake improved to 31-3. Ben McCollum's team led the nation in scoring defense (58.4 points per game) coming into the Big Dance and held Missouri 27 points under its season scoring average. They forced the Tigers into 17 turnovers and a miserable 33 percent shooting night.
