By Steven StiltDuring its monthly meeting on Tuesday, the Central City Village Board approved a revision to the village’s street solicitation ordinance. Trustees voted unanimously in favor of an amendment that removes the option for persons defined as “peddlers,” such as door-to-door salesmen, to purchase an annual license at a cost of $100. Those individuals are now required to obtain a license each day they go door to door, at a cost of $25 per person per day.

By Steven StiltThe Centralia City Schools Board of Education on Tuesday night formally approved the hiring of a new assistant principal at Centralia Junior High School for the 2025-2026 school year. Board members unanimously approved Ryan Brendel for the position. Brendel currently teaches in the Carlyle school district.

By Steven StiltWamac officials continue to work on an ordinance that would penalize city trash customers for leaving their trash receptacles out for extended periods of time. Members of the Wamac City Council voted Monday evening to table the ordinance, which as written would have required customers to put their trash bins out on Wednesdays, which is the regularly scheduled day for trash pickup, and to bring their bins back in by Wednesday night.

By Steven StiltDuring Monday’s meeting of the Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees, college officials took time to recognize Craig Roper, who was participating in his final meeting as a KC employee after nearly four decades of service, most recently as the school’s director of purchasing and auxiliary operations. Roper addressed the board, thanking the trustees and other college officials for the chance to serve the KC community.

By Steven StiltTwo construction projects taking place on the Centralia High School campus are on track to wrap up around the end of the school year, Superintendent Chuck Lane reported at Thursday night’s CHS Board of Education meeting. Lane told the board that solid progress is being made on an approximately 2,000 square foot pole barn addition that will house a staff workout and wellness area.
