By Steven StiltThe Wamac City Council approved a five-year contract extension with Sunrise Sanitation during its meeting on Monday evening. The city’s current agreement with Sunrise expires August 1st. Under terms of the new contract, rates will increase from the current cost of $13.50 per month to $16 per month during the first year, with more modest increases afterwards.

By Steven StiltThe Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees swore in three of its members to new terms during Monday night’s meeting, and voted to maintain the board’s current leadership structure. Trustees Craig Finke, Bill Hawley, and Linda Stover took the oath of office for their new terms, having been re-elected to seats on the board during the election held earlier this month.

By Steven StiltDuring its monthly meeting on Tuesday, the Central City Village Board approved a revision to the village’s street solicitation ordinance. Trustees voted unanimously in favor of an amendment that removes the option for persons defined as “peddlers,” such as door-to-door salesmen, to purchase an annual license at a cost of $100. Those individuals are now required to obtain a license each day they go door to door, at a cost of $25 per person per day.

By Steven StiltThe Centralia City Schools Board of Education on Tuesday night formally approved the hiring of a new assistant principal at Centralia Junior High School for the 2025-2026 school year. Board members unanimously approved Ryan Brendel for the position. Brendel currently teaches in the Carlyle school district.
