    MURRAY – If you see large groups of teens around town with yellow lanyards hanging from their necks over the next month, it’s because the Governor’s Scholars Program is back in session at Murray State University. Scholars and their parents were welcomed to campus on Sunday, and an opening ceremony was conducted after 348 scholars were shown to their rooms. It will continue through Saturday, July 26.

    MURRAY – The manager of Murray’s Captain D’s said she hoped to reopen by today after the restaurant experienced a fire in its kitchen on Tuesday. Murray Fire Department Chief Eric Pologruto said firefighters were dispatched to Captain D’s at 700 North 12th St. around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday. “They said they had a fire on the inside of the restaurant, and we got there and had fairly moderate smoke showing from the roof section of the building,” Pologruto said.

    MURRAY – The chair of the City of Murray’s Opioid Work Study Group said she is hopeful a planned Recovery Community Center will be a life-saving resource for local residents suffering from addiction. In 2022, the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office announced that cities and counties across the state would share at least $450 million as a result of a settlement between the commonwealth and opioid manufacturers and distributors.
