    RUSSELLVILLE – The artifical turf at Russellville High School’s football field will soon be replaced. The board of education recently approved the only bid it received to replace the artificial turf. Superintendent Dr. Tim Guinn said the $789,000 from Warner Athletic Construction Co., Inc., in Smyrna, Tennessee, includes installation of a reformation pad below the turf, which will create a surface that’s more shock-absorbent and cushioned. He said the turf should not get impact ruts.

    It was a rough weekend for folks in and around Franklin County. Very high winds raced through Franklin County, including an EF-2 tornado, leaving homes damaged, trees downed, and many without power. Pray for those whose homes were affected. The chances of a tornado hitting anyone’s home is very low, but when it hits yours, it is a disaster. When events like this happen, friends and neighbors rise to the occasion and help.

    Damage occurred in various places across our county as a result of Saturday’s EF-2 tornado. Unfortunately, tornadoes are not a new issue for us. It’s in times like this that we have the opportunity, though both big and small actions, to show each other we care and to help one another through trying times. Doubtless many of you have stories of either this occasion or others where members of our community came together to help each other through unexpected hardships.

    The Red Bay and Tharptown tip-off tournament are unofficial markers of the beginning of junior varsity basketball in Franklin County. Several county teams participated in the tournaments and made the finals. The Vina Red Devils were the first county team to take home a championship trophy. They beat the Lamar County Bulldogs, 20-13. The Red Devils had a strong first half, leading 11-6, and kept that hot streak going into the second half to get the win.
