A familiar face has finally made it back to the Sarasota County Planning Commission after years of lobbying the county to appoint him to a seat. The Sarasota County Commission narrowly confirmed Jon Thaxton — a former county commissioner and planning commissioner — to the advisory board at a Wednesday meeting. Thaxton secured the 3-2 vote with support from Commissioners Tom Knight, Joe Neunder and Mark Smith, with Commissioners Ron Cutsinger and Theresa Mast in dissent.
