CLINTON, Iowa (KWQC) - Police said they have arrested someone in the series of burglaries at Clinton businesses. Police said that early Friday they arrested a boy and charged him with criminal mischief and burglary in connection to four incidents at local businesses: Spring Green Lawn Care, Smokin’ Joes, Pawn Central and Dollar General. He had been reported as a runaway. Police said they used security footage and tips from the public to arrest him.

WINFIELD-MOUNT UNION, Iowa (KWQC) - A school district in Iowa is gearing up for a big test: They begin a four-day school week. The small district of Winfield-Mount Union Community School District, about 70 miles southwest of the Quad Cities has an enrollment of about 320 students. Elementary principal Karinda Wahls said the community is behind this. It began in 2023 with a simple question on a community survey: Is this something you would be interested in?

(KWQC) - A rural county sheriff said he supports the theory behind Illinois’ law that ended cash bail: You shouldn’t get out of jail just because you have money, while someone without money stays locked up. But he wants changes. It’s been almost a year since cash bail ended in Illinois, and Whiteside County Sheriff John Booker said the flawed rollout has unintended consequences – and it’s costing lives.

QUAD CITIES, Ill./Iowa (KWQC) - Police said the Moline postmaster stole mail he believed were greeting cards that contained cash or gift cards. Justin Brown was arrested June 28 after Davenport Police searched his home and found 487 cards greetings cards for weddings, birthdays, graduations and Father’s Day, according to arrest affidavits. All the mail found in his home was being sent from Illinois cities, including Geneseo, Moline, East Moline, Milan, Rock Island and Silvis.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - After a nearly year-and-a-half long audit of the state’s crime victim services, Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird said her office discovered significant gaps in how the state keeps people safe. She said that since 2019 there is no system in place that lets victims know if their orders of protection have expired.

GENESEO, Ill. (KWQC) - A 72-year-old Geneseo man is facing possession of child pornography charges. Paul D. Higgins, of Geneseo, was arrested Tuesday and charged with Class X felony possession of child pornography. He is also charged with Class 3 felony unlawful use of weapons and Class A misdemeanor firearm ID violation. The Geneseo Police Department, along with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office task force , found numerous image and videos during a search on North Vail Street.

BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) - A Bettendorf man is accused of threatening a woman with a gun before sexually assaulting her and choking her unconscious. Chris Steven Thodos, 36, of Bettendorf, is charged with two Class B felony counts of second-degree sexual abuse. According to arrest affidavits, Thodos forced a woman to have sex sometime between Nov. 6-7. While being assaulted, the victim grabbed a knife to defend herself. Police say Thodos left the room and returned with a loaded handgun.
