According to the Met Office, Northolt in London reached 20.6C (69.1F) by lunchtime, exceeding 2025's previous high of 19.7C (67.5F) set earlier in March.

Skygazers will be treated to a spectacular show as the planets make a close approach to one another, known as a conjunction. Just when we thought August had put summer back on track, could a hurricane be about to blow it all away? After a spell of dry, sunny weather for many in the UK, this week is looking quite different. We expect the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto to have an impact on our weather by the middle of the week, which could mean it feels like autumn before we've even reached the start of that season. Low pressure is moving in this week hence the change in weather for many.

And it wasn't just wet - it was cold, especially with the brisk wind. It was a return to wellies for my dog walks in the woods. Muddy puddles, which had only dried up for a week or so at the end of June, were back with a vengeance.

Was your weekend a washout like mine? I got completely drenched and not just over the weekend but on Friday too. And it wasn't just wet - it was cold, especially with the brisk wind. It was a return to wellies for my dog walks in the woods. Muddy puddles, which had only dried up for a week or so at the end of June, were back with a vengeance. It was wet for Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival and at Wimbledon, with most of the play taking place on the covered show courts.
