Just when we thought August had put summer back on track, could a hurricane be about to blow it all away? After a spell of dry, sunny weather for many in the UK, this week is looking quite different. We expect the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto to have an impact on our weather by the middle of the week, which could mean it feels like autumn before we've even reached the start of that season. Low pressure is moving in this week hence the change in weather for many.

Was your weekend a washout like mine? I got completely drenched and not just over the weekend but on Friday too. And it wasn't just wet - it was cold, especially with the brisk wind. It was a return to wellies for my dog walks in the woods. Muddy puddles, which had only dried up for a week or so at the end of June, were back with a vengeance. It was wet for Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival and at Wimbledon, with most of the play taking place on the covered show courts.

Many of us were glad to see the first prolonged period of warm sunshine in late June, the first month of the meteorological summer. But that now feels like a flash in the pan, as the all too familiar cloudy and cool conditions have returned. There has already been rain at Wimbledon this week and it feels much cooler out and about. So where has summer gone? It is all about the jet stream and importantly its position in relation to the UK.

Just feeling the sun's warmth on your face is enough to know spring is here. With trees and flowers in bloom, gardens and outdoor spaces have suddenly looked more colourful. It has certainly felt like spring over the last few days too, with the temperatures reaching 18.8C in Charlwood, Surrey. However, it will get colder with temperatures closer to average with the weather remaining unsettled in the run up to Easter. It has been a mid start to spring, but wet too.

The spring flowers are out, the days are getting noticeably longer, and we are starting to feel the strengthening sun on our skin. Cue the pollen season, and for reportedly 10 million people here in the UK that means the annual struggle with hay fever. Tree pollen is recognised as the first stage of the pollen season in the UK, and affects 25-35% of hay fever sufferers. It runs from March to early June for most trees - however it can be as early as January because some trees produce pollen earlier.

People across parts of the UK had their coldest November night since 2010 on Wednesday - and have three more days of snow and ice warnings ahead of them. On Aonach Mor in the Scottish Highlands, it was a bitter -8C (18F). In lower-lying Prestwick, in Ayrshire, the overnight temperature fell to -5.5C (22F) and dropped to a chilly -6.1C (21F) in the Cumbrian town of Keswick. Snow has fallen across Scotland and east England, as far south as Norfolk. It will stay cold for a few more days.
