Much of Southern California has been placed under a heat advisory on Tuesday as the first of a four-day heatwave arrives. A ridge of high pressure will result in an extended period of hot weather this week, peaking on Wednesday and Thursday,” the National Weather Service (NWS) stated in its Tuesday forecast. Above-average temperatures arrived Monday and will continue to climb on Tuesday, with the San Fernando Valley reaching the mid-90s.

Southern California is about to get blasted by a heat wave that is likely to bring 100-degree temperatures to parts of the San Fernando Valley this week. “We’re going to have five days with temperatures well above the average,” KTLA meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said Monday morning. A noticeable temperature jump is expected on Tuesday, with the hottest days likely to be recorded on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Southern California is set for a big weekend cooldown with a chance of light showers, but the below-average temperatures won’t last long. The National Weather Service (NWS) calls for a strong onshore flow to bring the cooling trend, according to its Friday morning forecast. Drizzle or light rain arrives for Saturday and Saturday night, but any rain totals are not expected to be significant.

Southern California will complete its transition from cold and cloudy to hot and sunny, with a mini heat wave expected to arrive in time for the weekend. “To get the heat this late in the season is not unusual, but it is going to be hot and will be a shock to the system. We haven’t seen temperatures like this in months,” KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said Thursday.

Rain continued to fall on portions of Southern California overnight, making for a wet commute Monday morning. Wraparound moisture from a system centered over southern Arizona brought light to moderate rain on Sunday, with showers continuing overnight, especially further inland. The National Weather Service called for an additional .2 to .3 inches of rain in the San Bernardino area from Sunday afternoon through Monday. Big Bear Lake could see close to a half-inch of rain.
