This study constituted part of the 5th National Fitness Surveillance conducted in the Hubei province of China. With the cross-sectional surveillance study design, a stratified cluster random sampling method was used to select samples involving four steps. Firstly, all municipalities in Hubei province were recruited for surveillance, and then three districts were randomly selected from each municipality. Next, three towns and three villages were randomly selected from each district.
