In a pair of tweets on his Truth Social media platform, Trump claimed he had actually fired Musk while suggesting ending the lucrative government contracts with companies controlled by the Tesla CEO and world’s richest person. “Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave,” Trump posted.

When President Donald Trump heard a word during his news conference Thursday with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, his mind immediately went to “the biggest scandal” in a century. “Did I hear the word ‘Autopen?’ Because I think it’s the biggest scandal maybe of the last 100 years in this country. Elon Musk on Thursday used President Donald Trump’s words against him, resurrecting old Trump tweets to suggest the president is betraying his principles. Musk, who vehemently opposes Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” because the legislation increases the deficit, posted a 12-year-old tweet in which Trump criticized Republicans for raising the debt ceiling. “I am a Republican & I am embarrassed,” Trump tweeted on Jan. 13, 2023.
