1. IntroductionVaccination is an effective method of preventing disease, significantly contributing to the establishment of herd immunity against pandemic diseases and the maintenance of public health (Anderson and May 1985). However, individuals are not always motivated to vaccinate, and vaccine hesitancy can manifest in behaviors such as refusing vaccination or delaying it despite the availability of vaccination services (MacDonald 2015).

eLife Assessment This valuable study delineates the cellular contributions of BMP signaling in liver development and function. The findings are convincing, and the study employs state-of-the-art molecular, genetic, and cellular approaches to demonstrate that hepatic stellate cells play a central role in liver health by mediating cell-to-cell crosstalk via the production of specific BMP proteins.
