AUSTIN, Texas — The coldest air of the winter is likely to arrive in Central Texas for the middle and end of next week. Ahead of this Arctic blast, the KVUE Weather Team has now issued Weather Impact Alert Days for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. During this stretch, each morning will bring a hard freeze with air temperatures in the 20s and teens. A gusty north wind will drop feels like temperature to dangerous levels in the single digits and even below zero for some locations.

AUSTIN, Texas — It was a very wintry scene across Central Texas Tuesday morning, with many locations waking up to a coating or more of snow! Roads early Tuesday were slick across the KVUE area, but fortunately, sunshine and above freezing temperatures drastically improved road conditions Tuesday afternoon. The vast majority of snow-covered roads thawed out and the leftover moisture evaporated. However, we're still not completely done with travel concerns quite yet.

Parts of Texas could get a glimpse as a strong geomagnetic (G4) storm will likely produce good viewing for the northern lights across the northern half of the United States. While viewing the northern lights with the naked eye is likely only possible north of Texas, it may be possible to see the northern lights through photographs in parts of Texas tonight.

AUSTIN, Texas — Central Texas was lucky enough to experience a partial solar eclipse on Oct. 14, 2023. We're now looking ahead to a much rarer celestial event, with a total solar eclipse set to pass over Austin and much of Central Texas on April 8. Austin will be in the path of totality, meaning that the shadow of the moon – referred to as the umbra – will pass over directly. In Downtown Austin, there will be approximately 1 minute and 50 seconds of totality.
