CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Former NFL players Charlie Brown and Leroy Robinson are advocating for recognition of their 1981 draft class from South Carolina State University. Brown, a St. John's High graduate, and Robinson are calling for the school and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) to honor their class, which they describe as historic. The 1981 draft class from South Carolina State included eight players who went on to the NFL, with five of them being drafted that year.

The Charleston RiverDogs suffered their sixth consecutive loss to start the 2025 season, falling 5-2 to the Columbia Fireflies on Thursday night at Segra Park. A 27-year-old man from McClellanville was arrested Tuesdsay and faces charges related to sexual exploitation of a minor, Atorney General Alan Wilson said. Seivon Garrett is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, which is a felony offense punishable by up to 20 years in prison for each count. Through the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, investigators with the Mount Pleasant Police Department allege that Garrett produced child sexual abuse material.
