A 'selfish' childminder who left a five-month old baby abandoned at her home while she took a group of older children to school was today spared jail. Andrea Ward, 62, left three boys - the eldest aged 16 months - alone at her home on 'multiple occasions', a court heard today. Ward, who had nearly 30 years' experience and was Ofsted-registered, was rumbled when the baby boy's mother spotted her before she returned home.

The youngster was attending an after-school Islamic class at a house in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, when the tragedy unfolded on Monday evening. ANGRY locals have slammed their neighbour's huge newbuild and dubbed the "eyesore" a "monstrosity". Residents in Blackrod, near Bolton, have blasted a decision to approve plans for the controversial home in their picturesque town. The large property was given the green light, despite it being close to existing homes. Blackrod Town Council, which is only advisory in planning matters, rejected the application but it was subsequently granted by Bolton Council.

A cocaine-fuelled driver who killed a toddler has been revealed to be a gang leader who was previously released from jail early. Rawal Rehman, 35, had snorted '20 lines' of the Class A drug in seven hours and visited two massage parlours before the tragedy the following morning. His three-year-old victim Louisa Palmisano was on the pavement in central Manchester with her parents when Rehman's Mercedes Sprinter van collided with a tram before careering into them.
