    CLEMSON, S.C. (WPDE) — The No. 3 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers dominated in their first game against No. 2 Vanderbilt Commodores in the Clemson Region of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. The story of the game was the Chants' batting. Five players had at least two RBIs. Sam Antonacci had the lone homerun for CCU.     HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — One person was critically injured after a crash in the Socastee community on Monday. Horry County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to the area of Stonebridge Drive and Cornerstone Lane for a crash involving a vehicle and tree. Officials said the crash involved entrapment and the vehicle overturned. The South Carolina Department of Public Safety is investigating.

    DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — A Hartsville man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Jeremiah Farmer was sentenced to 25 years for the manslaughter charge and 5 years concurrent for possessing a firearm. Solicitor Will Rogers said Farmer shot his friend, Eddie McCoy, in Hartsville on October 1, 2022. Farmer shot McCoy after an argument while attending a gathering of friends and family.

    The Horry County School Board appointed an interim superintendent during a special called meeting on Wednesday evening. Dr. Eddie Ingram will start in the position on July 1. Ingram retired from the Berkley County School District in 2021. He also previously served as the Darlington County Superintendent. Ingram will replace outgoing HCS superintendent Dr. Rick Maxey who announced his resignation in April, with his last day officially being June 30.

    ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WPDE) — The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down in Red Springs on Tuesday. According to the NWS, the storm had max winds of 80 mph and a max width of 40 yards. It traveled 5.35 miles. The National Weather Service said that Red Springs in Robeson County had an EF-0 tornado on Tuesday, May 15, 2024.
