A number of refuse collections in Swale, Maidstone and Ashford have been missed due to a change in contractor, say councils. A 17-year-old Kent student, originally from Ukraine, earnt a place to study maths at the University of Cambridge. David came to Kent two years ago after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has since studied at Skinners School in Tunbridge Wells. Speaking to BBC South East, he said: "I thought I was pretty good at maths, so I decided to apply. I thought it would be 50-50 if I was going to get in."His maths teacher said David was the "strongest student" he had ever taught.

Residents of a privately managed estate have complained of being issued bills for periods they did not live there, and being charged without prior notice. Jason Fong, who lives on the Finberry Estate in Ashford, Kent, said he received a surprise maintenance bill. Despite it being his first bill "in a long time", the charge of nearly £2,000 was marked as a final reminder. The estate's management company said owners were told about how and why it demanded service charges in this way.
