    Anoka made Minnesota history on May 22 when it broke ground on its municipal cannabis dispensary, which is on track to be the first such building since marijuana was legalized in the state in August 2023. Planned for a January 2025 opening, the groundbreaking ceremony was attended by city officials and included a virtual message from Rep. Zach Stephenson (DFL - Coon Rapids), chief author of the bill.

    On a still spring day, visitors crowded Anoka's Riverfront Memorial Park to participate in the city's annual Memorial Day service. Hosted by Edward B. Cutter American Legion Post 102, the service brought together veterans, service people and city officials.     The city of Anoka started to lay the groundwork for welcoming Twin Cities Pedal Pub to its downtown. Through several first readings on May 19, the council is one step away from creating licensing fees, routes and public consumption exemptions for the business. The planned, but subject to change, pedal cab route intends to start in downtown Anoka on Second Avenue, adding to the city's Social District offerings, and heading into portions of surrounding neighborhoods.
