An arctic air mass is on its way to the Western North Carolina area. A Hazardous Weather Outlook updated by the National Weather Service at 4:36 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, said that "a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will develop in higher elevations after midnight" Friday and will continue into early Saturday. Accumulations will be light and mainly in higher elevations, but it could cause slippery conditions on bridges, overpasses and decks by daybreak Saturday, Jan. 18.
