MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) - The official start of winter remains a month away, but the weather will look wintry for most of Mid-Michigan this week. The first snowflakes of the season are likely Wednesday night, as cold air pours into the region during a day-long rainfall. Many people in Mid-Michigan may see accumulating snowfall on grassy areas, but some areas won't see that much. A low pressure system is approaching Mid-Michigan, which will bring steady rainfall for most of Wednesday.

MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) - The El Nino winter of 2023-2024 in Mid-Michigan is the warmest or second warmest on record, which is leading to historically low ice coverage on the Great Lakes. The lack of ice could affect weather in the region for the end of winter into the spring. Ice coverage on Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, Lake Michigan, Lake Erie and Lake Superior is the lowest for mid-February since 1973, when weather observers began calculating ice coverage.
