MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - Crews in Manhattan responded to a fire at Walmart on Friday, June 13. According to the Manhattan Fire Department (MFD), crews responded to a reported structure fire at 4:45 p.m. on Friday at 101 Bluemont Avenue. When MFD arrived, they discovered smoke showing at the doors and people evacuating. Officials said Walmart employees were extinguishing the fire as crews arrived at the middle of the store where the fire started.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A US-24 highway exit ramp is set to close in Topeka next week. According to the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), starting on Monday, June 16, the westbound US-24 exit ramp to northbound US-75 will close until early September. A marked detour will be placed to direct motorists to NW Menoken Road to eastbound US-24 to the northbound US-75 exit. In addition, message boards and signage will be set to alert and direct motorists.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A 19-year-old Topeka man was arrested in connection with a homicide that occurred near downtown Topeka in early June. According to the Topeka Police Department (TPD), Pearson Carter III, 19, of Topeka, was arrested for his alleged involvement in a homicide that occurred on June 3 at the 700 block of SW Western Avenue. On June 3, officers arrived and located an individual with life-threatening injuries. The individual was later pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WIBW) - Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle D.J. Humphries is heading to Southern California. According to a social media post from his representation, AMDG Sports, Humphries has signed with the Los Angeles Rams. Kansas City signed Humphries on Nov. 24, 2024. The 6-foot-5, 307-pound tackle suffered a hamstring injury in his first game with the Chiefs in week 14 last season. Humphries, 31, played again in week 18 of the 2024-25 season.

LYON COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) - An Amazon Prime van was broken into and packages were stolen, officials said. According to a social media post from the Lyon Co. Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to the 1700 block of Road N on Monday, June 9, to help remove an Amazon Prime van from the road. Officials stated that the van had taken a wrong turn and had been stuck in the mud for several days.
