SENECA, Kan. (WIBW) - The man accused of killing Catholic priest Father Arul Carasala told the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office that he “shot Father Arul,” an affidavit from the Nemaha County District Court stated. According to the affidavit, Nemaha Co. Sheriff Richard Vernon was informed on April 3 at approximately 2:50 p.m. that dispatch took a 911 call that someone was shot near the Catholic church in Seneca, at 411 Pioneer St., about a block east of the Sheriff’s Office.

ALMA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Wabaunsee elementary and junior high art teacher will compete in one of the most prestigious racing events in the nation on Monday, April 21. Art teacher and assistant high school cross country coach Alicia Stott is gearing up to run in the 129th annual Boston Marathon on Monday. According to Wabaunsee USD 329, Stott qualified by running under three hours and 30 minutes in prior races.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Kansas Governor Laura Kelly vetoed seven bills and allowed three to become law without a signature on Wednesday, April 9. Gov. Kelly vetoed Senate Bill 269, Senate Substitute for House Bill 2228, House Bill 2062, Senate Substitute for House Bill 2240, Senate Substitute for House Bill 2382, House Bill 2028, and Senate Bill 18. She allowed House Bill 2056, Senate Bill 250, and House Bill 2263 to become law without her signature.

SOLDIER, Kan. (WIBW) - The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Holton man following an incident where he barricaded himself inside a camping trailer on Monday, April 7. According to Jackson Co. Sheriff Tim Morse, authorities responded to do a welfare check of a minor child at 318 Friend Street in Soldier around 1 p.m. Monday. Deputies allegedly encountered Jose L. P. Alacantar Jr., 52, of Holton, behind the residence, barricading himself inside a camping trailer.
