    The two-week Central Criminal Court trial involved allegations of serious sexual abuse against one girl by another during family sleepovers. It left a ruptured family in its wake, with extended family members giving evidence in support of the accused young woman. Today the jury returned not guilty verdicts against the now 20-year-old Dublin woman on all 12 counts against her after over nine hours of deliberating. The defendant and her mother both cried as the verdicts were handed down.

    A 50-year-old man who befriended a teenage girl on Snapchat and sexually exploited her, giving her money and alcohol in exchange for sexual favours, has been jailed for three years. Dublin Circuit Court heard David Slattery of Priory Square, Celbridge, County Kildare, took the then 16-year-old girl to a hotel on two occasions, bought her a vape, mobile phone credit, food and alcohol, gave her cocaine once and engaged in sexual activity with her several times.

    Several relatives of a woman and her younger cousin, who she is accused of sexually abusing at childhood sleepovers, have given evidence for the defence. The grandmother of the accused woman and the complainant told defence senior counsel Dominic McGinn that the girls never slept over together in her house as has been alleged. A number of aunts and uncles of the accused and the complainant gave evidence for the defence saying the two girls were not particularly friendly when they were growing up.

It can now be reported: Top criminal solicitor Cahir O'Higgins was jailed this year for the prolonged harassment of a fellow solicitor that culminated in O'Higgins punching the other man's nose. The judge described his behaviour as "thuggish", "deranged". https://t.co/ZqVTNMM0pw
