SOUTH CAROLINA (WSPA) — Rain arrived in the Upstate on Sunday and Monday, helping cool down the Table Rock Complex fires. While the rain helped, it was not enough to extinguish the Table Rock or Persimmon Ridge wildfires. “We are really grateful that the rain has come, in what our hope is that the rain is going to help dampen the fire activity,” said Holly Welch with the South Carolina Forestry Commission. Windy and dry conditions fueled the flames of the largest wildfire in the region’s history.

PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - Due to the spread of the Table Rock and Persimmon Ridge fires, mandatory evacuations are in effect for parts of Pickens and Greenville counties. The South Carolina Forestry Commission announced the evacuations on Tuesday night. The close proximity of the fires to one another factored into the decision to evacuate the areas, officials said. Families have already began to seek shelter.

ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A man died Saturday after being shot in Anderson after a dispute with a family member. According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, county dispatch was called at around 2:30 p.m., regarding a shooting that occurred at Squirrel Drive. The 27-year-old who was shot was taken to AnMed for his injuries where he later died. The Anderson County Office of the Coroner identified the man as Deonte Marquez Luster.

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – A man was charged with multiple felonies after allegedly stealing more than $175,000 in watches and jewelry from a woman in Buncombe County. According to deputies, officials began their investigation on Dec. 22. Upon returning from a wedding, a woman saw someone had gone into her safe and stolen five Rolex watches, three bracelets and a necklace.
