At 15, Evan Polanco has big dreams — not to just help one family, but to change his entire community. “I want to, you know, improve off of that, gain some confidence off of that, and then do more. Because, I go to a different school, actually than everyone … And I genuinely love to, like, speak about certain things like this, like how we could give back more to our community,” Polanco said outside West Berwick Elementary.

Marsha, a scruffy twelve-year old cat with amber eyes ambled out of her TV-shaped bed to say hello at Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge. Her fur had been shaved close to the skin. When rescuers found her wandering in Greenfield Township in April, her fur was matted and covered in ticks in what rescuers said was the worst case they’d ever seen. Now, Masha’s again fighting for her life after surviving a grand mal seizure in late May.

I never realized that it was more than likely coming from the plant … You have all these questions in your mind about it, and you just don't connect the dots until you come to a meeting like this,” said King at the Nesquehoning Recreational Center on Thursday night.

Secretary Debra Bogen of the State Department of Health championed this week the Wyoming County State Health Center’s reopening in Tunkhannock. The clinic offers vaccines and free services like HIV and STD testing and counseling, COVID-19 tests, naloxone distribution, condoms, gun locks and referrals for healthcare services for people who are underinsured or uninsured. It’s one of 59 state health centers across the state.

Gov. Josh Shapiro sued the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) over the termination of a $13 million food assistance contract in the wake of looming food stamp cuts and mounting losses to charitable food programs. USDA cancelled Pennsylvania’s three-year contract for the Local Food Purchasing Assistance (LFPA) program in March. It subsidized the cost for food banks to purchase produce from local farmers.
