FARMINGTON — Two men are facing multiple charges after racing motorcycles at high speeds on Route 332 late Monday night, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office said. Reed M. McBride, 21, of Fairport, and Devin T. Chamberlain, 25, of Canandaigua, were charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, unauthorized speed contest, reckless driving, speeding, passing a red light, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and failure to comply with a police officer.

GENEVA — A proposed five-story, 74-unit residential development received generally positive reviews when introduced before City Council earlier this year. However, opposition appears to be gathering for the plan by Geneva-based Lakeview Health Services/Lakeview Community Resources to construct a 17,000-square-foot residential development on land currently owned by the Finger Lakes Times and surrounded by four streets: Genesee, Castle, Colt and Elm.

CANANDAIGUA — Ontario County District Attorney Jim Ritts announced Thursday he has requested a special prosecutor in the case of former Geneva police officer Michael Tapscott, who is accused of selling drugs while on duty. In the news release, Ritts appeared to blame his opponent in the June Republican primary, Jason MacBride. Ritts said his office was “compelled” to file a motion with State Supreme Court to appoint a special prosecutor in the case.

GENEVA — The city’s Industrial Development Agency has launched a program recognizing property owners who have made “exceptional improvements” to their homes or residential buildings. The Pride Award is a recognition effort spearheaded by IDA board member Lowell Dewey, the agency said.

House Republicans stayed up all night to pass their multi-trillion-dollar tax breaks package, with Speaker Mike Johnson defying the skeptics and unifying his ranks to muscle President Donald Trump’s priority bill to approval. The House launched debate before midnight; by dawn, the vote was called, 215-214, with Democrats staunchly opposed.
