LYONS — Rick House was plenty happy serving as Wayne County’s undersheriff when, while working on some spreadsheets in his office, his boss, mentor and friend walked in and closed the door. Barry Virts,, then the county sheriff, was going to give him some more career advice. “Don’t blow this opportunity,” Virts whispered to House. Then he left. “I was baffled and dumbfounded,” House said. “I’m like, ‘What is he talking about?’ ”He soon found out.

MANCHESTER — A driver police said was intoxicated slammed her vehicle into a Manchester restaurant early Monday morning, causing significant damage to the building and forcing the business into temporary closure. State Police said Samantha I. Jones, 29, of Clyde, was charged with driving while intoxicated following the crash, which was reported at 5:18 a.m.Troopers said that when they arrived on the scene, they found a broken telephone pole and a large hole in the side of Jack’s Kitchen at 11 S.

CANANDAIGUA — In the midst of a battle for the Republican nomination for district attorney comes the release of a report on an Election Day party involving District Attorney Jim Ritts’ staff that included alcohol consumption in the Ontario County Courthouse — and allegedly in a courtroom. Ritts faces off against his former top prosecutor, Jason MacBride, in the GOP primary in June. The Times received the document Thursday after filing a Freedom of Information Law request.
