    SAN MARCOS, Texas — Dozens of people spoke during the public comment period at the San Marcos City Council meeting on Tuesday, speaking in favor and in opposition of adding more license plate readers. Altogether, the city could have 33 fixed license plate reader cameras. The city currently has 14 of them. Council voted on a contract to add more equipment and software for the police department. For the first year, it would cost the city more than $124,000, which would be paid with grant money.

"I live two blocks from Faubion and so my kids walk to school and I know people in this neighborhood do as well," King said. But the future of the school could be up in the air along with others. Several elementary school campuses at Leander ISD are operating below capacity, under 60%, and enrollment is slowing down in certain portions of the district.

    BUDA, Texas — On Saturday, April 26, 16-year-old Mathew Hellums remembers doing maintenance on the family boat at the South Shore Marina on Lake Travis with his parents when the unthinkable happened: a boat fire. "My vision was just completely covered in orange," Hellums said. While Hellums said he and his dad, Robby, did not end up in the water, they both saw his mom, Earlita, floating. Still feeling the heat of the fire, Hellums jumped in to save his mother.
