The candidates were the last two standing out of a pool of 27 in the May 3 election, which happened on one of the city’s biggest nights of the year: the Fiesta Flambeau Parade. Ortiz Jones succeeds Mayor Ron Nirenberg, who has served as mayor since 2017 and cannot seek re-election due to term limits.

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are searching for a suspect after a shooting on the Northeast Side left one man in his 30s in serious condition. Officers were called to the Qubed Hotel in the 4600 block of Rittiman Road just before 7 a.m. Thursday. Police found the man in a room with multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body, SAPD said. The man was in and out of consciousness and taken to a local hospital in serious condition, where he is undergoing surgery, according to police.

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department is walking back an incorrect news release announcing the return of its mounted patrol unit, an SAPD public information officer said Friday. SAPD had said the unit would return on Saturday, Feb. 1, as part of the 2025 Western Heritage Parade & Cattle Drive festivities.
