Peter Jones, aged 68, from Caerphilly caused a deep cut to his victim’s thumb which needed five stitches. The pair had rowed while the complainant, who works in the entertainment industry in Blackpool, was home to visit his mother who was ill in hospital. Jones and the victim’s mum had been in a relationship for 31 years and were married for 29 years. Cardiff Crown Court heard that the relationship between stepfather and stepson had “never been a good one and tensions were running high”.

Joshua Seivwright, 21, from Newport was locked up for 33 months in 2021 for trafficking crack cocaine. He ended up serving all of that time in custody when he was arrested for supplying cannabis after being released from a young offender institution halfway through. The defendant, of Beaufort Road, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court for his latest offending which took place in Newport last month between April 3 and April 13.
