Peter Jones, aged 68, from Caerphilly caused a deep cut to his victim’s thumb which needed five stitches. The pair had rowed while the complainant, who works in the entertainment industry in Blackpool, was home to visit his mother who was ill in hospital. Jones and the victim’s mum had been in a relationship for 31 years and were married for 29 years. Cardiff Crown Court heard that the relationship between stepfather and stepson had “never been a good one and tensions were running high”.

Mason Rudy, 21, smashed up a television she had been bought for Christmas and destroyed her make-up which was left strewn all over the floor. The defendant carried out the “spiteful” burglary in Caerphilly after she had ended their relationship, Cardiff Crown Court heard. He has a previous domestic violence against the woman for engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship and assault by beating from 2023.

Imtiaz Fazal, 39, stole a holdall and laundry pods worth £144.90 from B&M on May 7 and two suitcases valued at £100 from Primark on May 9. The defendant pleaded guilty to both thefts. These offences put him in breach of a community order imposed last month for similar matters, including the shoplifting of Ferrero Rocher chocolate worth £75 from Tesco Express. Former mechanic Fazal, of no fixed abode, Newport was jailed for 26 weeks by District Judge Sophie Toms.
