LIMA — A judge set bond at $1 million Wednesday for a man that police identified as the suspect in an April 18 stabbing death. Marcus Tyson, 45, appeared via a video hook-up from the Allen County jail for an arraignment hearing conducted by Lima Municipal Court Judge Tammie Hursh. The Allen County man entered a plea of not guilty to a preliminary charge of murder, an unclassified felony. Lima police identified Tyson as a suspect in the April 18 stabbing death of Anthony Townsend.

ADA — The U.S. Marshals Service, with assistance from the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ada Police Department, took a man into custody Monday who was wanted on a federal probation violation. Officers surrounded a home at 530 Liberty St., Ada, to serve an arrest warrant on Craig Sutherly, according to a spokeswoman with the marshals service. He initially refused to exit the home but was eventually taken into custody without further incident.

Apr. 22—COLUMBUS — In celebration of Earth Day, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has announced the rollout of nearly $1 million in grants to more than two dozen local governments statewide to clean up existing illegal dump sites containing solid wastes and/or demolition debris and to prevent future dumping. Grants of up to $100,000 were available for cleanup efforts. In addition, applicants could seek up to $20,000 for equipment — signs, gates and barriers — to deter future dumping.

Apr. 22—LIMA — A Lima man was formally indicted Tuesday in Allen County Common Pleas Court for his alleged role in a group beating that left a man with broken ribs and other serious injuries. Johnny Plaugher, 47, was indicted earlier this month by an Allen County grand jury on a first-degree felony charge of kidnapping, two counts of felonious assault, each felonies of the second degree, and one count of possessing criminal tools.

Apr. 22—LIMA — The following defendants were sentenced recently in Allen County Common Pleas Court:Jerwond Cook, 48, of Lima, was sentenced to three years on probation and 30 days in the Allen County jail for failure to register. Billie Jean Campbell, 31, of Lima, was sentenced to three years on probation with a referral to the WORTH Center for the illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified government facility.
