Initially owned by Freedom Communications, a private company based in California known for the Orange County Register, The Lima News changed hands in 2012 when it was acquired by Ohio Community Media, linked to the private equity firm Versa Capital Management. During its time under Freedom Communications, the newspaper adopted a libertarian viewpoint on various topics.

    LIMA — Last week (bit.ly/4lDJKTy), the America 250-Ohio commission announced Lima as one of the local recipients of a grant to fund a project to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday in 2026. Lima Public Information Officer Jessica Begonia said the announcement to have “Lima’s Local History Hunt” is a product of several months of collaboration at both the city and county level. “Through that effort, we came up with this idea,” she said.

    LIMA — A judge set bond at $1 million Wednesday for a man that police identified as the suspect in an April 18 stabbing death. Marcus Tyson, 45, appeared via a video hook-up from the Allen County jail for an arraignment hearing conducted by Lima Municipal Court Judge Tammie Hursh. The Allen County man entered a plea of not guilty to a preliminary charge of murder, an unclassified felony. Lima police identified Tyson as a suspect in the April 18 stabbing death of Anthony Townsend.

    ADA — The U.S. Marshals Service, with assistance from the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ada Police Department, took a man into custody Monday who was wanted on a federal probation violation. Officers surrounded a home at 530 Liberty St., Ada, to serve an arrest warrant on Craig Sutherly, according to a spokeswoman with the marshals service. He initially refused to exit the home but was eventually taken into custody without further incident.

    FINDLAY — Modern bluegrass band Never Come Down just needs one microphone. When they perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts, 200 W. Main Cross St. in Findlay, that is where the harmonies they sing will come from. “We met at a bluegrass night at a little national park-themed bar in Portland and we started playing that music,” mandolinist Kaden Hurst said.
