    A security guard has been arrested for shooting to death a man during the eviction of suspected illegal land invaders in the Juju Valley informal settlement in Seshego near Polokwane, Limpopo, yesterday. Two others were wounded. Police Spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba says violence broke out when private security guards, municipal security and police were evicting suspected land invaders. He says some people pelted the security with stones.

    Residents of the Nkowankowa township outside Tzaneen in Limpopo have been blockading streets with burning tyres since last night over power and water outages. They are demanding an end to Eskom’s load reduction and the Mopani District Municipality’s water supply disruptions. The Tzaneen Municipality has urged residents to stop the protest saying it is engaging both Eskom and the Mopani District Municipality.

    A female Limpopo police officer arrested in connection with the killing of her son and his teen girlfriend is expected to appear at the Morebeng Magistrate’s Court in Soekmekaar. Police say the suspect allegedly shot and killed her 25-year-old son and his 16-year-old girlfriend at her home at Mokomene-Mashaha village. The cause of the incident is being investigated. The officer will face murder charges.

    The Department of Health says the Witpoort Hospital outside Lephalale has been re-opened. The hospital had been temporarily closed due to threat of flooding following heavy rains and the collapse of a dam wall in the area. Patients have now been taken back after being relocated.     The High Court in Polokwane, Limpopo, has ruled that Queen Manyaku Thulare must be the Bapedi acting queen, pending a ruling by the Supreme Court of Appeal. In the ruling, Limpopo Premier’s Office, and some members of the royal council have been cited as the respondents. A section of the royal council had been opposing her appointment, following the death of her son Thulare Victor Thulare the third three years ago.
