The authorities in Limpopo suspect that a tyre burst is the cause of an accident in which five people were killed on the R71 near the JCI Mine in Phalaborwa. The crash happened yesterday when the vehicle the deceased were travelling in overturned and caught fire. The deceased who include the driver are yet to be identified.

Limpopo police say the remains of a man who had been given paupers burial at Mookgophong Cemetery has been positively identified and handed over to the bereaved family. In a statement, police say the body was identified through fingerprints and DNA analysis. The remains of a 32-year-old man who died in a car crash on the N1 near Mookgophong in 2018, were buried in paupers’ burial together with 40 other unknown bodies. The bodies were buried in two graves without coffins in the past few weeks.

Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba and Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego have received a South African patient who couldn’t receive required treatment at a hospital in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The patient was airlifted from Musina to Polokwane hospital. He had been brought to the border by a private ambulance paid for by the provincial Health Department as the Zimbabwean government could not assist. The person fell sick while he was working in Bulawayo.

Eleven people have been arrested in connection with illegal sand mining and for being in the country illegally. The suspects were arrested in the Sekhukhune, Mopani and Vhembe districts in Limpopo during Operation Vala Umgodi. The operation led to the arrest of six suspects for charges of contravention of immigration laws, fraud and bribery.

A Limpopo male nurse wanted in connection with the killing of his girlfriend has been found hanging from a tree at the Nkowankowa industrial area outside Tzaneen. The deceased, identified as Victor Shivambu, was wanted for stabbing Faith Shikhibana to death. They were both nurses at Mavambe Youth Care Centre near Malamulele. Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says, though they don’t suspect any foul play, they’re investigating.
