News surfaced Friday morning that a blow beneath the belt was being dealt to a quarter of the 3,000 workforce – it coming from below the 49th parallel and U.S. President Donald Trump and his ongoing 25% tariffs affecting Canadian-built vehicles that was implemented on April 3. Jeff Gray, president of UNIFOR Local 222, which represents the GM workers in Oshawa, was none too pleased. “It will affect 700 plus workers in the plant, but we also have a supply chain that feeds the plant,” said Gray.

Dog walker Kristin Freeland and Derek — out with his dog, Henry — were at Stanley Park in the King-Wellington Sts. area talking about “the latest attack” by a coyote; this one apparently Tuesday morning near a condo building in the Tecumseth-Wellington Sts. area. Freeland showed grainy images on her mobile phone of a mangy looking coyote at the back doors of The Summit, at 735 King St. W., which quickly approached one of her clients and his 55-pound dog.

Former Toronto deputy mayor Jennifer McKelvie appeared on track to trade her office at City Hall for a government seat in the House of Commons. The Toronto councillor, who decided more than a month ago to run in Ajax for the Liberal Party seat vacated by incumbent Mark Holland, was ahead of Conservative Greg Brady in the early going.
