Durham Regional Police Chief Peter Moreira stood before a huge poster showing off mugshots of those arrested – all from Quebec – in an auto theft investigation called “Project Carbon” along with seized tools, digital decoders, bags of cash and cocaine. Moreira said officers started seeing vehicles being stolen from all over Durham Region in early January and a few in Toronto, and on March 13 they executed search warrants in Toronto.

But at Pearson International Airport on Wednesday, Frank and Manon McAllister weren’t exactly clicking their heels as they returned from a warm trip from Jamaica, through Toronto, onto Seattle and then home to Wasilla, Alaska, north of Anchorage.

Held at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club in North York, the honourees were joined by peers, including Sun Editor-in-Chief Adrienne Batra, and city councillors, James Pasternak and Brad Bradford. Judy Foldes, B’nai Brith’s chief operating officer, said the event also marked the 150th anniversary of the B’nai Brith media awards. “We have been part of the Canadian fabric for over 150 years,” said Foldes.
