I must admit I have been deaf, dumb, and blind for a long time. I thought I had arrived at a state of enlightenment when I learned there was another class of people besides the white suburban middle class I grew up in. I learned in college and graduate school and as a young working man that there was a distinct class of poverty-stricken people of color living in the big cities. That was quite a revelation to me.

On March 24, the Trump administration’s top officials were exposed for leaking U.S. war plans in a Signal group chat — one so reckless it included a journalist by mistake. That same day, the U.S. Senate confirmed one of Trump’s top State Department nominees. These cabinet positions were filled with deeply unqualified nominees and here we are, not two months into this corrupt administration. Let’s be clear: This wasn’t business as usual. This was complicity in a national security crisis.

If silence continues, it makes me feel our Vacaville Reporter, our community newspaper, is choosing to support the dangerous attack on our democracy. Silence is saying DOGE, the disinformation, the questionable choices of the current leaders by Trump, and the damage from the “chainsaw approach” in finding a way to balance the budget is OK. It is not OK. The silence from the Reporter regarding any publicity of peaceful resistance is deafening.

Cost of Housing: Median home values in the Vallejo metro area have increased 36% in 10 years, from $340,100 in 2011 to $464,000 in 2021. At the same time, annual median family income rose only 28%, from $79,316 in 2011 to $102,019 in 2021.
