They abruptly stop and pack up their supplies – they are only allowed to use a certain amount of water to fight the fire. I bet this sounds ridiculous to many of you and in truth, it is.

Editor’s note: Brendan Riley’s Solano Chronicles appears every other Sunday in the print edition of the Vallejo Times-Herald. The current buzz about the possibility of new shipbuilding locations in Solano County brings to mind some interesting local history: In the late 1800s and early 1900s several shipyards flourished in Vallejo, just across the Napa River from Mare Island, the Navy’s first West Coast base where more than 500 vessels were built and launched.
