The No. 9 Tigers open up their tournament run with No. 8 Mississippi State on Wednesday, and former LSU pitcher Raelin Chaffin could start in the circle for the Bulldogs. Chaffin, who spent three seasons at LSU, is 21-8 with a 2.53 ERA in 39 appearances so far this season at Mississippi State.

The Tigers edged Jena, 4-3, in the Division III Non-Select state championship game Sunday at the North Frasch Softball Complex in Sulphur. Kylee Savant's three-RBI double in the top of the fifth gave Doyle a 4-2 lead. COLLEGE STATION - The LSU baseball team was four outs away from a series win over Texas A&M, but a Caden Sorrell three-run home run put the Aggies ahead for good. The Tigers were up 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth with two outs, but a Jace Laviolette infield single brought in the third Texas A&M run. Two hitters later, Sorrell hit the three-run blast off Zac Cowan to put the Aggies up 6-4. In the top of the ninth, LSU would go down in order and lose 6-4.
Dunham, U-High among area teams advancing to semifinals

BATON ROUGE - Multiple Baton Rouge area high school baseball teams punched their tickets to the state semifinals. In Division III Select, No. 9 Dunham pulled off the upset over top seed Parkview Baptist, beating the Eagles 4-1 in a deciding Game 3 on Saturday. Dunham will play No. 4 Catholic of New Iberia in a best-of-three semifinal next week. On the other side of the bracket, University High had no trouble Calvary Baptist. The Cubs beat the Cavaliers 11-1 Saturday to earn a two-game sweep.

Eyanson tossed a complete game in game two of a doubleheader against Texas A&M, striking out 14 Aggies en route to a 2-1 LSU win. Eyanson improves to 7-2 this season. The Tigers two runs came in the sixth inning. Ethan Frey hit an RBI double and then Josh Pearson put down a perfect safety squeeze bunt to bring in a run.

Jared Jones tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the sixth, but two seventh-inning runs for Texas A&M were the difference in a 3-1 Aggies victory. Tiger starter Kade Anderson pitched six innings, struck out 12 and allowed just one run. The loss was charged to Zac Cowan, who allowed two runs in just .1 innings in the seventh.

LSU only mustered up four hits in a 6-0 loss to Arkansas. The Razorbacks scored one run in the first, one in the third, one in the fourth, and three in the fifth. Tatum Clopton started for LSU in the circle, but only lasted 2.2 innings and allowed two runs.
Brusly baseball and softball both in pursuit of state championship

BRUSLY - Brusly High School hopes to bring a couple of state titles back to campus in the coming weeks. The Panther softball team is in the Division II Non-Select semifinals starting this Friday, and the Brusly baseball team enters this week's quarterfinal series as the No. 1 seed in Division II Non-Select. The Panther softball team has won four state titles in school history, but the last one was in 2019, so nobody on this year's squad has a championship ring.

The Tigers scored four runs in the first inning, which included back-to-back home runs from Derek Curiel and Jared Jones to start off the frame. The Tigers had a five-run fifth inning before closing the game out an Ethan Frey grand slam in the bottom of the seventh. William Schmidt started on the mound for LSU, going 3.1 innings, allowing two runs, and striking out seven Lions.

inSportsSource: WBRZBATON ROUGE - The No. 2 LSU baseball team starts this week with a matchup against a good Southeastern team at Alex Box Stadium on Tuesday night. LSU is coming off a 2-2 week last week, which included a series win over Tennessee but also a mid-week loss to Northwestern State. The Tigers are 36-9 this season and 14-7 in the SEC. Southeastern is 33-11 this season and 18-6 so far in Southland Conference play. The Lions won their series with Houston Christian last week.
