Baton Rouge Rougarou win season openerBATON ROUGE - The Baton Rouge Rougarou collegiate summer league baseball team won its season opener Tuesday night. The Rougarou beat the Brazos Valley Bombers, 8-5, in Texas Collegiate League action at Pete Goldsby Field. Baton Rouge will hit the road for the next six games before returning home on June 12.

BATON ROUGE - The LSU baseball team jumped out early on Dallas Baptist, and didn’t look back in Saturday night’s Baton Rouge Regional winner’s bracket game. The Tigers earned their second straight shutout, beating the Patriots 12-0. LSU scored two runs in the bottom of the first thanks to an Ethan Frey RBI double. LSU made it a 3-0 game in the second with Chris Stanfield’s first home run of the season. Then, the Tigers added three more runs in the bottom of the third to break the game wide open.

inSportsSource: WBRZBATON ROUGE - The biggest strength for the LSU baseball team going into the postseason is its pitching staff. The Tigers are seventh in the nation with a 3.72 ERA and showed their toughness in the SEC Tournament this past weekend, allowing just five runs in two games. Zac Cowan and Casan Evans, two of LSU's best arms this season, didn't even pitch this past weekend.

Coach Johnson did not say what pitcher would start for Friday's matchup with the Trojans in a press conference on Monday. "It's three championship caliber teams (in the Baton Rouge Regional), so we'll look at that and decide what we're going to do," Johnson said.
